Feeding Habits

Honeybees have chewing mouth parts that are adapted for nectar and honey consumption. The labium is structured in a straw-like mouth part that helps the honeybee to suck/consume the honey and nectar. The queen honeybee is only fed royal jelly by the worker bees because she lays approximately 1,500 eggs per day.

On the background page, larvae are grub-like; which means they heavily depend on the worker bees to feed them until they are able to feed themselves. The larvae are fed with pollen and honey for about three weeks by the worker bees.

Worker  honeybees have a dance language with each other when it comes to finding food. They have the “round dance” which means the food is close. They have the “figure 8 dance” which means the food is distant from them. Fun Fact: Honeybees uses the sun as a compass to help guide other honeybees or themselves.
